Michel Sidibé currently serves as the Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). Before this appointment, he was UNAIDS’ Deputy Executive Director – Programmes and Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations. He replaced Dr. Peter Piot to become the Executive Director. Sidibé has brought with him more than two decades of experiences in the field of international public health, development, and AIDS. For more than 20 years, he served in a variety of capacities within the United Nations including the UNAIDS in Geneva, UNICEF in New York, and countries in Africa. He co-chairs the Global Task Team on improving AIDS coordination among multilateral contributions in support of national programmes and systems. He is also a big advocate for promoting universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support.
