In the Ghanaian culture, we believe that when we get a visitor the first thing we give them is water. So when the baby comes, the baby has to be welcomed and the baby is given water. Unfortunately the babies rather have problems like diarrhea.

We developed a policy that was the first national policy on breastfeeding. Midwives were targeted, and then pediatric nurses, so that when babies are born, they are given breast milk.

With my first son I breastfed him for a shorter time, so I can tell that well they fall sick a little more. And this one is excellent, at least for six weeks already gained 2.3 kilos, yeah.

The babies now are healthier, especially during the first six months. They just suck breast milk, and they look happier and there are less problems. I feel really good. I believe that this program has been one of the successes in the country.
